Everyone has a different hair loss story, which is why no two replacement treatments are the same. At NHI, we consider every patient individually, and determine the best hair treatment for them. Our main treatment recommendations involve a follicular unit graft (FUG) or follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure. Why do we think that this is the best hair treatment?
To determine the best hair treatment for you, we will consider the reasons behind loss and what you wish to achieve. We provide realistic expectations for what can be achieved – our many past clients can provide a guide as to how regrowth will progress.
Pharmaceutical Options
A number of topical lotions and oral medications are available that have been proven to have some efficacy in halting loss and assisting regrowth. However, the chance of regrowth with even the best hair treatment amongst these options is relatively low, and the likelihood of a dramatic increase in density is even lower.
Medications like Finasteride are often recommended to transplant patients in order to help minimise loss of non-transplanted hair. These can be an effective “insurance policy,” but do not produce the same impressive results as FUG or FUE treatment.
Grafts and Wigs
“Non-surgical replacement” procedures are simply wigs that are moulded to your scalp to provide the illusion of full regrowth. Following this treatment, clients are required to return to the offering clinic every 3–5 weeks for the wig to be cleaned and to have their scalps re-shaved before the wig is glued back on. Additionally, the wig needs to be re-coloured and replaced at regular intervals.
Obviously, this comes with ongoing maintenance and costs – unlike FUG, which requires a one-off, all-inclusive payment.
